National Standards
DSA published three documents around March 2010, outlining the standards required to drive a car or light van.
Each of these documents has since been updated.

National Standard for Driving Cars and Light Vans
These three documents should be the basis for all teaching carried out by Driving Instructors.
Similar documents have since been published for other categories of vehicle.
In 2011 DSA published a document relating to teaching standards, which has since been updated.
National standard for driver and rider training
The national standard describes the skills, knowledge and understanding
needed to be a safe and responsible driving or riding instructor or instructor trainer.

Car and light van
The standard sets out what you must be able to do and what you must know and understand to be a safe and responsible car and light van driver. The syllabus sets out a way of teaching people that knowledge and those skills.
